The Orange City Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting at a local bank that injured one person on Tuesday.
According to OCPD, officers responded to Truist Bank located at 2602 Enterprise Road in Orange City on Tuesday, January 27, after receiving reports of a “suspicious person” in the area.
When officers arrived at the bank, they encountered a man who was later identified as 54-year-old Michael Alan Smith.
“During the encounter, an officer discharged their firearm,” said OCPD in a media release. Smith was struck by a gunshot, and he was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
In an update, Orange City police said that Smith is currently listed in stable condition.
No further details were provided by OCPD regarding Smith’s condition or the shooting incident.
According to OCPD, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the agency’s investigation.
In addition, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
