Volusia County Sheriff's Office patrol car

A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office sergeant has been pulled from road patrol duties after being arrested in Colorado on a DUI charge.

Last week, VCSO Sergeant Steven Edgecomb’s vehicle was stopped by a law enforcement officer near Breckenridge, Colorado, after his vehicle was allegedly observed “weaving from a traffic lane,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Edgecomb was placed under arrest during the traffic stop, which prompted VCSO to launch an internal affairs investigation. According to the agency, this investigation “will remain open pending the outcome of the criminal case.”

In addition, VCSO has revoked Edgecomb’s on-duty driving privileges, and he has also been relieved of all law enforcement duties.

“While a member of law enforcement is entitled to the same due process rights as anyone else, we are sharing this arrest because we recognize law enforcement officers must be held to a higher standard than the general public,” said VCSO in a media release on Wednesday, February 4.

Edgecomb was hired by VCSO in 2006, and the agency states that he has had “no prior incidents of this nature.”
