Orlando – Loving Husband and Father, Caring Friend, Honest, Kind, Compassionate, Friendly, Cheerful, Adventurous, Great Sense of Humor
David R. Bell passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2025, with his beloved wife Betty by his side. He was 67 years old.
Dave was born May 25, 1958, in Portland, Maine to JoAnn and Chester Bell. From an early age, he displayed a curiosity and enthusiasm that would define his entire life. He graduated from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute (now SMCC) with a degree in Automotive Technology, launching what would become a lifelong love of transportation.
A talented drummer with a rhythm that matched his spirited personality, Dave formed the band ‘Sound Unlimited’ with close friends during his youth. The band became a well-known fixture at local venues for several years. Dave continued playing with various bands throughout his adult life, as well as providing his musical talents with the drums and the djembe at a number of events. As a teenager, he poured his heart into building his own Camaro, an example of his hands-on approach to life and his determination to master any challenge he set his mind to. He was always curious and set on discovering how things worked.
Dave’s professional journey reflected his adventurous spirit. He worked for several dealerships in the Greater Portland area, where his automotive expertise made him a trusted professional. He later discovered a love for construction work, finding great satisfaction in building and creating with his own hands. Twelve years ago, Dave and Betty made the bold decision to pursue a lifelong dream, relocating to Orlando, FL to become Cast Members at Walt Disney World, a role that perfectly suited Dave’s gift for bringing joy and laughter to others.
Dave had a zest for life and lived it to the absolute fullest. As a warm-hearted and sensitive person, he made friends easily and treasured every friendship as something precious. He was always curious, always seeking to learn and experience new things, never content to simply watch life pass by. He built a house almost entirely on his own. And he took up tap dancing with enthusiasm, finding new rhythms to match the beat he’d always kept on the drums. He learned to pilot small planes, finding wonder in viewing the world from above.
Auto racing wasn’t just a hobby for Dave; it was a passion that kept him busy for decades. As a competitive drag racer, he spent countless weekends at tracks throughout New England and beyond. You could often find him at a drag race somewhere locally or in another state, surrounded by fellow enthusiasts and dear friends.
Dave was an avid traveler with a particular passion for cruising. He was always enthusiastically planning the next adventure. His fascination with airplanes and space travel reflected his belief that there were no limits to where curiosity could take you.
As a collector of entertainment, Dave amassed an impressive collection of movies and music spanning a wide variety of genres. One of his greatest joys was curating the perfect soundtrack or movie selection for any occasion, whether it was a quiet evening with Betty or a gathering of family and friends. He had an ability to choose exactly the right entertainment to enhance any moment, and he loved to make people laugh. Whenever you saw Dave, he was always smiling a full-hearted smile that lit up his entire face and made everyone around him feel welcome.
Dave is survived by his wife Betty of Orland, FL; his daughter Amanda and her husband Stephen Harrington of Methuen, MA; Amanda’s mother Celeste Bell of Buxton, ME; his two step-daughters, Jennifer and her husband Adam Moss of Boulder, CO, and Nicole Pelizza of Somersworth, NH; and his sister Diana and her husband Tom Allen of Falmouth, ME. He leaves behind countless friends, and a legacy of laughter, love, and living life without reservation.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sunshine Donoway, RN, and Kechler St. Hubert, HHA, of Vitas Healthcare for the extraordinary care and compassion they showed Dave throughout his illness and in his final days. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
