New Smyrna Beach police have launched an animal cruelty investigation after a “severely malnourished” dog was found on Monday.
According to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, an emaciated tan and white, spayed female dog was located in the 200 block of Inwood Avenue in New Smyrna Beach on Monday, February 9.
Officers searched the area but were unable to identify the dog’s owner.
The dog was taken to the Edgewater Animal Shelter, where she is receiving necessary medical care.
In a social media post on Wednesday, NSBPD stated that its “seeking to identify the owner [of the dog] solely for investigative purposes related to this case.”
The police department added that the dog will not be returned to the owner.
