A 29-year-old Cocoa man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking along the shoulder of Interstate 95 in Brevard County on Thursday morning.
The fatal crash occurred on I-95, near mile marker 205, at around 3:35 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that an unknown vehicle was heading northbound on I-95, north of State Road 528, in the outside lane.
At the same time, the pedestrian was walking in a southerly direction on the northbound outside paved shoulder of the interstate.
An FHP trooper said in the report that the vehicle veered onto the shoulder and hit the pedestrian before fleeing from the area.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to FHP, vehicle parts were found at the location of the crash, which have led investigators to believe that the vehicle involved is “possibly a red semi-truck.” Investigators also believe that the vehicle should have damage to its right-side bumper and right turn indicator.
The crash remains under investigation.
