Robert (Bob) M. Baker, 76, was born in Metuchen, N.J., on January 18, 1950. He passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at AdventHealth Orlando.

Bob attended St. Frances Elementary School in Metuchen, N.J., and St. Maria Goretti Catholic High School in Hagerstown, MD, graduating as class valedictorian, he also played acoustic guitar in a folk trio. He e was a dear and respected classmate to all who knew him there. Bob continued playing music while attending The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and later at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. His career included work as a mechanical engineer and later as a computer software engineer in Orlando, FL, until his retirement. He resided in Maitland, FL until his death.

Bob’s lifelong joy of playing music-both professionally and while “picking and grinning” with friends at informal jam sessions-always included time spent mentoring any budding musician he met. He performed with his church’s contemporary band and participated in many church ministries.

Bob’s passions also included gardening, sailing on the Gulf of Florida, teaching his grandchildren to surf on a boogie board, and sharing stories of his travels abroad. Bob loved being a Gator but also enjoyed wearing his “Proud Parent of a Florida State University Student” shirts. His genuine and easy going personality made him a dear friend to many, far and wide. His kind acts will surely continue to resonate through his friends and family for years to come.

Bob was the devoted husband of Sheila (Hamel) Baker, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage. He was the beloved father of Kelly (Bill) Klein of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Stephen (Ashley) Baker of Port Orange, FL; and Laraine (Matthew) Pennington of St. Paul, MN. His grandchildren include Harper, Edie, Will, Nolan, Zayda, and Samuel. Bob’s siblings include Billy (deceased), Nancy, Robert(deceased), Jay, Peggy Sue, Joanne(deceased), and Gina Ryan. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Arthur and Margaret Baker.

A Gathering will be held on February 24, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at DeGusipe Funeral Home, 9001 N. Orlando, Avenue, Maitland, FL 32757. The Funeral Mass, followed by a reception, will be held on February 25, at 11:00 a.m. @ St. Augustine Catholic Church, 375 N. Sunset Drive, Casselberry, FL 32707. Lunch will follow.
