A 21-year-old Cocoa man died on Friday evening after the motorcycle he was riding struck a minivan at an intersection in Brevard County.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated in a report that the fatal collision occurred at around 7:10 p.m. on Friday, February 20, at the intersection of Courtenay Parkway and Duval Street in North Merritt Island.

A Toyota Sienna was traveling northbound on Courtenay Parkway when it approached the Duval Street intersection in the left turn lane. The second vehicle, a Suzuki GSX1300R motorcycle, was heading southbound on Courtenay Parkway, approaching the same intersection in the outside lane, according to the report.

An FHP trooper said that the Toyota’s driver, a 64-year-old Merritt Island woman, began turning left onto Duval Street when the vehicle entered the direct path of the motorcycle.

The front of the motorcycle proceeded to strike the Toyota’s right side. Due to the impact, the rider was thrown off the motorcycle, and he was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
