A 42-year-old North Carolina man traveling on Interstate 95 in Volusia County was killed early Wednesday morning after his pickup truck veered off the roadway and struck a guardrail.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle collision occurred on I-95, near mile marker 242, at around 2:12 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25.

The man was heading southbound on the interstate, south of W Indian River Boulevard, in the center lane. For reasons that are unknown, his Ford F-250 pickup truck left the roadway, and its right front section hit the guardrail.

The initial impact caused the pickup truck to become airborne. The report stated that the vehicle then overturned before landing in a water-filled ditch.

An FHP trooper noted that the pickup truck’s driver was ejected during the crash, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation, according to FHP.

Last week, an Edgewater man died after his car rear-ended a semi-truck on I-95 in Volusia County, near mile marker 241.
