An 80-year-old woman was killed, and an 84-year-old man was seriously injured, after they were struck by a pickup truck while trying to cross an Orlando roadway on Friday afternoon.
The fatal collision occurred at around 12:05 p.m. on Friday, March 6, at the intersection of Goldenrod Road and Quail Pond Street, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 2017 Ram 1500 pickup truck hauling a trailer was traveling southbound on Goldenrod Road when it approached the intersection of Quail Pond Street in the left turn lane.
At the same time, the elderly man and woman were walking northbound on the east sidewalk of Goldenrod Road when they entered the marked crosswalk to cross Quail Pond Street.
The report stated that as the pickup truck attempted to make a left turn at the intersection, its front section hit both pedestrians in the crosswalk.
The elderly man and woman were both transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. The woman was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, and the man remains in serious condition.
The pickup truck’s driver, a 58-year-old Orlando man, was not hurt and remained on-scene.
An FHP trooper noted in the report that the crash remains under investigation.
