A driver was killed early Sunday morning after their car struck a tree and caught fire near Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred at around 1:22 a.m. on Sunday, March 15, near the intersection of EPCOT Center Drive and Overpass Road in Orange County.

A 2023 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on EPCOT Center Drive, north of the Overpass Road intersection, at a high rate of speed.

An FHP trooper stated in the report that the speeding Hyundai was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway. As a result, the car veered off the roadway before colliding with a tree.

Shortly after this impact, the Hyundai became fully engulfed in flames, and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The Medical Examiner’s Office will contact FHP once they have identified the deceased,” said the trooper.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
