A head-on collision in Osceola County left two drivers dead on Wednesday night.
The two-vehicle crash, which involved an SUV (2014 Honda CR-V) and pickup truck (2003 Dodge Ram), occurred at around 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, near the intersection of State Road 60 and Mae Bass Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
An FHP trooper noted that the Honda was traveling eastbound on SR 60, east of the Mae Bass Road intersection , when the SUV’s driver – identified as a 54-year-old Tampa man – veered into the oncoming lane in an attempt to “overtake eastbound traffic.”
At the same time, a 52-year-old Greenacres man was heading westbound on SR 60 in the Dodge pickup truck.
The Honda proceeded to enter the westbound lane, placing it in the direct path of the Dodge pickup truck. As a result, the front section of both vehicles collided.
Both drivers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. The report mentioned that the Dodge’s driver was not wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
