A downtown Orlando-based court reporting and litigation support firm is preparing for a mass layoff that will impact 80 employees later this spring.
Milestone Reporting Company, LLC, issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice to the Florida Department of Commerce and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer on Monday, March 16.
The company says it will permanently release dozens of employees at its downtown Orlando facility, which is located at 315 East Robinson Street, starting this May. The company also says that the layoffs are expected to be permanent.
According to the filing, the job losses are scheduled to take place between May 15 and May 31. The firm provides a variety of services to the legal community, and the reductions will affect several departments within the organization.
The largest impact will be felt by the company’s production and digital reporting teams, with the elimination of 42 digital reporters, 14 production staff members, 11 scheduling coordinators, six sales representatives, five client care specialists, and two administrative staff members.
The company notified officials that affected employees do not have “bumping rights,” meaning those with more seniority cannot displace junior employees to retain their jobs.
Milestone Reporting Company markets itself as a “path through litigation,” offering court reporting, videography, and interpretation services.
While the company did not provide a specific reason for the mass layoff in the letter, the move follows recent shifts in how technology and remote services are utilized within the legal support industry.
