An Oviedo man is facing up to life in prison after a federal jury found him guilty of trying to coerce and entice a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity.

On Monday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced that 32-year-old Rusbel Montoya Mandujano has been convicted of the attempted coercion and enticement charge.

Court records, including testimony and evidence presented at trial, show that back on June 25, 2025, Montoya Mandujano began communicating online and via text messages with a “girl” that he believed was 14 years old. However, the “girl” was actually a team of undercover detectives working with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

When Montoya Mandujano learned that the “girl” was a minor, he reportedly initiated discussions with “her” regarding the “various sexual acts” he wanted to engage in with “her,” and hce made plans for them to meet in person.

The following day, Montoya Mandujano arrived at the meeting location, where he was met by law enforcement officers and placed under arrest.

A sentencing hearing for Montoya Mandujano is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He is facing a minimum penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Testerman.

Additionally, this case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
