A 4-year-old girl died on Wednesday evening after she was struck by an SUV in the driveway of an Apopka home.
At around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse was parked in a private driveway located on Robinson Avenue, near the intersection of 13th Street, when the driver “proceeded forward in an easterly direction,” according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The driver, identified in the report as a 37-year-old Apopka woman, was unaware that the 4-year-old girl was standing next to the SUV’s right rear passenger door.
The report stated that the SUV’s movement caused the girl to fall down. Moments later, she was struck by the vehicle.
The girl was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
An FHP trooper noted that the SUV’s driver was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
