Lourdes Martinez Thomas, 79, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 10, 1946, in Manila, Philippines, Lourdes was the eldest of eight children of Enrique Tumaliuan and Dolores Martinez. She was raised in Quezon City and earned her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Santo Tomas in 1967.
In 1971, Lourdes migrated to Troy, New York to pursue a Medical Technology Internship and remained in the United States for the rest of her life. While in Troy, she met John Scott Thomas, and they married in 1974.
In 1978, Lourdes and John Scott relocated to Oxon Hill, Maryland. She gave birth to her daughter and son in 1980 and 1981, respectively. In 2000, she moved to Kissimmee, Florida, where she resided until she passed.
Lourdes dedicated her professional career to working as a medical technologist from 1972 until she retired in 2020. She loved to travel and experience all that the world had to offer. She was someone you never wanted to be matched up against on a Mahjong table. Above all, she cherished her family and devoted herself to caring for those she loved. She was a woman of deep faith and was actively involved with the Catholic Church.
She is survived by her beloved children, Leslie Wright and Jonathan Thomas; her son-in-law Michael Wright and daughter-in-law Jessica Thomas; her cherished granddaughters, Ellie and Violet Thomas; her siblings, Nell Tumaliuan, Rita Javier, Rey Tumaliuan, and Mercy Apostol. She is also survived in the state of Florida by her brothers-in-law, Cesar Javier and Ronald Apostol; and her nephews Kyle, Josh, and Gabby Apostol; as well as extended family in California, New York, and the Philippines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband; her brothers, Romeo and Noel Tumaliuan; and her sister, Fe Villegas.
A celebration of life will be held on April 19, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at A Community Funeral Home & Sunset Cremations.
