A 75-year-old man reportedly drowned in Volusia County over the weekend while getting ready for a boating trip.
Shortly after 10:25 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a boat dock located on Sher Lane after an individual found the victim’s body in the water between two boats, according to VCSO.
The victim was later identified as 75-year-old DeBary resident Jerry Capo.
The sheriff’s office stated that Capo’s left leg got “caught on a rope” that was being used to secure a boat to the dock. Capo then fell into the water, where he drowned.
“Capo’s son arrived on scene and said he and his dad were planning to go out on the boat,” said VCSO in a media release.
After conducting an investigation, the sheriff’s office found no signs of foul play, and Capo’s death was determined to be “accidental in nature.”
