Tilda Mae Willis Cannon, a woman of profound faith and selfless service, entered into the presence of the Lord on April 2, 2026. A pillar of her community and a cornerstone of her church, Tilda was more than a wife, mother, and sister—she was a steady, unwavering light that guided and uplifted all who knew her. Her life was defined by her devotion to God, her deep love for her family, and a legacy of grace that will live on in each of us.

Tilda took great pride in both her work and her community. For 16 years, she served as a Radio Relief Driver for Orange County, ensuring the safety and connection of those she served. She also brought leadership and care to her role as Housekeeping Manager at the Caravan Hotel. In every professional endeavor, Tilda gave her very best, reflecting her inner strength and dedication to excellence.

If you truly wanted to know Tilda, you had to hear her music. For over 35 years, she was a talented bass Player and songwriter for the Gospel Daytonaires of Orlando, sharing her testimony through every note. A faithful member of New Life Angel Church, she served as a church musician throughout her life. To Tilda, the sanctuary was home; she didn’t just play music—she ministered, filling the air with sound and spirit.

Tilda was a gifted writer of poems and God-inspired messages that offered comfort to the heavy-hearted. She was the true definition of a loyal friend; there was nothing she would not do for those she cared about. Whether she was offering a kind word or standing by someone in need, she lived a life that reflected God’s grace and the power of a generous spirit.

Tilda was preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine Williams and Hubert Smith; her stepfather, John Williams; daughter Dawn Verdett Smith, her grandson, Morris Lee Cannon, III; and her stepchild, Travis Brook.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her devoted husband, Morris Lee Cannon, Sr.; her children, William Fernandez Willis (Fayetteville, NC); Morris Lee Cannon, Jr. (Orlando, FL) and her grandchild, Genesis Cannon. She is also survived by her sisters, Eunice Boone (Durham, NC), Lorraine Maynard (Jerry) (Durham, NC), Thommasina Boya (Jose) (Clayton, NC), and Lista Quinn (Calvin) (Fayetteville, NC). She also leaves behind her stepchildren, Jacquelyn Hallmon, Sabrina Moss, (Pelham, GA) and Loretta Cannon, Eustis FL, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and loved ones.
