Julia was the second of ten children born to Julio Batista and Confesora Garcia, both deceased. Married Juan Cortes-Muñoz( deceased) on December 21st , 1957.

Julia graduated from Trujillo Alto High School and furthermore from University of Puerto Rico, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a professional diploma in School Administration and Supervision, and a Master’s degree in Counseling. She obtained a Master’s degree in Theology from Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico (Summa Cum Laude) and a Doctorate in Ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois.

Julia taught in several elementary schools in Trujillo Alto, was the Associate and Education Director at Colegio Bautista de Carolina, served as a counselor at the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Puerto Rico and was the Director of the Counseling Program at Puerto Rico Junior College.

In March of 1973, Julia answered the call to ministry serving as a pastor at her home church, Sion Baptist Church in Trujillo Alto.

She became the Associate Minister for Youth and Families at IBPR, an organization for all the Baptist churches in Puerto Rico.

From the mid eighties until retirement in 1996, she was a professor at Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico.

Julia is survived by her children: Eliacim(Carmen), Amarilis (Jose), Ruben(Janice), her daughter in law Sonia (Hernan, deceased); her grandchildren:

Pedro(Crystal), Juan(Camille), David(Laura), Andrea, Alejandro, Sofia(Oscar), and Sarah; her great grandchildren: Zane, Alicette, Ocean, Molly, Micah, Matthias, Madeline and Isabella
