Daytona Beach police are searching for a suspect after a person was shot and critically wounded on Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, May 13, at approximately 12:35 p.m., Daytona Beach Police Department officers responded to the 800 block of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard in reference to shots being fired in the area, according to DBPD.

Officers arrived at the scene and located one victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and currently remains in critical condition.

Daytona Beach police stated that the suspected shooter fled from the area prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Detectives are actively following all leads, and the identities of both the victim and the suspect are being withheld by police pending further investigation.
