Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) State Trooper Car

A driver was killed early Monday morning after crashing into an Interstate 95 guardrail in Brevard County, leading to the DUI arrest of a second motorist whose car was struck by debris.

The fatal crash occurred at around 1:05 a.m. on Monday, May 25, in the southbound lanes of I-95 near State Road 528 (mile marker 204).

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a 24-year-old Rockledge man was traveling southbound on I-95 in an Infiniti Q50 sedan. While in the center lane, the sedan veered off the left side of the roadway for unknown reasons, striking a guardrail on the paved inside shoulder.

Debris from the collision subsequently struck a Volkswagen Taos that was traveling in the center lane, directly behind the Infiniti.

The driver of the Infiniti sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. FHP noted in the report that the driver was wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred.

The Volkswagen had two occupants at the time of the accident: 49-year-old Palm Coast resident Cynthia Latasha Willis and a four-year-old girl. The report stated that they were not injured.

Following the fatal crash, FHP arrested Willis for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. She was booked into Brevard County Jail, where she currently remains in custody.

Jail records indicate that Willis refused to submit to DUI testing at the time of her arrest.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
