A 34-year-old man has been arrested on a second-degree murder charge, days after he allegedly shot and killed another man inside a vehicle.
On Friday, June 12, the Sanford Police Department announced the arrest of Undray Allen in connection with the shooting death of 32-year-old Deon Fields, which occurred early in the morning on Sunday, June 7.
On that date, two men – identified as Allen and Fields – reportedly were together inside a vehicle when they got into an argument. During that verbal altercation, Allen allegedly shot Fields.
When Sanford police officers responded to the intersection of Historic Goldsboro Boulevard and Pomegranate Avenue at around 3:20 a.m., they found Fields deceased from gunshot wounds.
An SPD investigation reportedly revealed that Allen and Fields were “well-known to each other.” No further details regarding the fatal shooting were provided by police.
Following Allen’s arrest on Friday, he was booked into Seminole County Jail, where he remains in custody without bond. He is facing charges of second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest without violence.
Despite the quick arrest, Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith expressed frustration over a reported lack of cooperation from witnesses. Investigators believe several people witnessed the incident but have not yet come forward.
“Our investigators worked diligently to charge the suspect in this case in a short period of time. I am proud of their hard work,” said Smith in a prepared statement. “The fact that the community has provided little to no information to assist with getting violent individuals off the streets is disheartening. Law enforcement officers cannot keep an entire city safe without the community’s help and participation.”
