A 24-year-old Orlando man was killed and three other Central Florida men were hospitalized following a wrong-way, head-on collision in Lake County on Sunday morning.

The deadly crash occurred at around 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, near the intersection of State Road 33 and Bakers Lane, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

An FHP trooper noted that a Toyota Camry, driven by the 24-year-old Orlando man, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of State Road 33 when it approached Bakers Lane.

At the same time, a 33-year-old Kissimmee man was traveling southbound on SR 33 in a Dodge Journey.

The report stated that as the Toyota continued traveling the wrong way, it entered the direct path of the Dodge, resulting in a head-on collision. The force of the impact reportedly caused the Dodge to become partially engulfed in flames.

The Toyota’s driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, according to the report.

There were two passengers inside the Toyota at the time of the crash: a 25-year-old Orlando man and a 23-year-old Oviedo man. Both passengers, who were also wearing seatbelts, sustained serious injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge was also seriously hurt in the two-vehicle collision. The report mentioned that it is currently unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

The three individuals who survived the crash were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The accident remains under investigation, according to FHP.
