A man died early Monday morning after his car collided with a semi-truck and struck a light pole on Orange Blossom Trail, near State Road 417, in Orange County.
The fatal crash occurred at around 2 a.m. on Monday, July 20, near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and the northbound exit ramp for SR 417, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Investigators stated that a Kia sedan was traveling southbound in the inside lane of Orange Blossom Trail. At the same time, a Freightliner semi-truck was making a left turn from the SR 417 off-ramp to travel northbound onto Orange Blossom Trail.
A witness reportedly told troopers that the Kia’s driver ran a red light at the intersection. As a result, the car collided with the left side of the semi-truck’s trailer.
Following the initial impact, the Kia ran off the roadway before colliding with a light pole.
The sole occupant of the Kia, described in the report as an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The Medical Examiner’s Office will contact FHP once they have positively identified the deceased,” noted a trooper in the report.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 43-year-old Kissimmee man, was not hurt and remained at the scene following the crash.
The fatal two-vehicle collision remains under investigation by FHP.
