A man was arrested inside an Orlando IHOP on Monday morning after he allegedly stabbed a rideshare driver.
Shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday, July 20, Orlando Police Department officers responded to the area of East Marks Street and Kenilworth Terrace after receiving reports of a stabbing, according to the agency.
When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Casselberry resident Jovaughn Nathan Matthie, had allegedly stabbed the rideshare driver after the victim refused to provide a ride without a request through the official application.
Following the reported stabbing, Matthie reportedly fled from the area, though officers quickly found him inside a nearby IHOP located on East Colonial Drive. He was detained in handcuffs without further incident.
During a pat-down search of Matthie, officers reportedly found a knife in one of his pockets.
Matthie was placed under arrest and booked into Orange County Jail, where he remains in custody without bond. He is being charged with attempted second-degree murder with a weapon and resisting an officer without violence.
“To protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure the facts are thoroughly established, we are unable to provide additional information at this time,” said the Orlando Police Department in a social media post.
