Lechonera closed after rat droppings, flying insects lead to failed inspection

A local Puerto Rican restaurant was forced to temporarily close its doors after a health official found dozens of rat droppings and flying insects during a recent inspection.

Lechonera Orlando, which is located at 9998 E Colonial Drive, was forced to temporarily close its doors on Wednesday, May 10, after a health inspector with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation cited at least 12 code violations.

Among the violations, which included six considered high priority, was the presence of rodent activity as evidenced by droppings found throughout the restaurant. According to the report, the inspector found droppings on the floor near lockers, in a dry storage area, and on racks in the kitchen, among other places.

Additionally, live, small flying insects were found in the kitchen and food preparation areas.

The restaurant was permitted to reopen the following day, Thursday, May 11, after a reinspection turned up only three violations.
