Parramore community clean up and beautification

Volunteers and students looking for community service hours are encouraged to attend a Parramore community cleanup and beautification event this weekend.

The Carter Street Neighborhood Association, local residents, and business owners will gather together on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. starting from the John H. Jackson Center and Downtown Orlando UCF/Valencia Campus.

Advanced registration is required to participate in the cleanup. For anyone interested in attending, contact the city by visiting the Parramore Community Cleanup and Beautification event webpage.

It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Philip Q. Richardson Jr. of Orlando, Florida, born in Miami, Florida, who passed away at the age of 73, on May 14, 2022.

He was predeceased by his son Cory E. Richardson; and his brother Leonard Richardson. He is survived by his wife Carolyn L. Richardson; his children, Kimberly Clugston and Kevin A. Richardson; and his grandchildren, Cody Reich, Samantha Richardson and Joseph Richardson. He is also survived by other extended family and friends.

Orlando firefighters save woman from overturned, burning vehicle

Firefighters from the Orlando Fire Department saved a woman’s life earlier this week after she became trapped inside of a burning, overturned vehicle near Narcoosee Road.

On Monday, May 16, around 11 p.m., OFD firefighters responded to the area of Northlake Parkway and Narcoossee Road to a vehicle that was engulfed in flames.

According to OFD, the flames were producing so much heavy smoke that the victim had difficulty breathing. While the crews were working, an OFD lieutenant placed his mask onto the patient’s face while she was still trapped in the vehicle.

Orlando Fire Department firefighters saved a woman who was trapped in an overturned, burning vehicle on Narcoossee Road this week.

Crews doused the vehicle with water continuously as the flames reignited and were eventually able to cut the trunk, remove the rear window, and free the woman.

The woman was air lifted to Orlando Health with injuries, but is expected to survive. According to authorities, the woman only had seconds to live if it were not for the lieutenant’s quick actions in providing her with the air pack.

We are sad to announce that on May 16, 2022, at the age of 40, Leslievette Echevarria of Orlando, Florida, born in Brooklyn, New York passed away.

She is survived by her husband Andres Rodriguez Santana; her son Ethan Rodriguez; her mother Ramona Padilla; and her siblings, Jose Echevarria, Janet Echevarria and Sheila Echevarria.

Viewing will be held on Monday, May 23rd 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Good Life Funeral Home & Cremation (8408 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32817). A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 23rd 2022 at 12:00 PM at the same location.

Walk to Defeat ALS at Lake Eola Park

The Walk to Defeat ALS event returns to Orlando this weekend.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lake Eola Park, which is located at 512 East Washington Street.

Proceeds from the event will benefit local residents suffering from ALS and their families, according to event organizers.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sharon Elizabeth Ciunci of Orlando, Florida, born in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, who passed away on May 14, 2022, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Merton Dawson and Mildred Dawson; and her sisters, Judith Richley and Dawn Husson. She is survived by her children, Michael Sears, Richard Sears and Therese Sears; her brothers, Merton Dawson, Jr. and David Dawson; and her grandchildren, Richard Sears, Jr., Brittney Sears and TracyLyn Sears.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 19th 2022 at 3:00 PM at the Good Life Funeral Home & Cremation (8408 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32817).

Exotic cars and coffee in Old Town this weekend

Exotic cars will occupy Old Town this weekend in the return of the monthly cars and coffee series.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Old Town square, located at 5770 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee.

Exotic cars of all makes and models will be present, including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Lotus, Porche, and McLaren, to name a few. Only exotic cars are eligible to participate, and no motorcycles are allowed.

Shred sensitive documents with Orange County Sheriff’s Office

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office will host a shredathon event this weekend for those seeking to get rid of sensitive documents.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Timber Creek High School, which is located at 1001 Avalon Park Boulevard in Orlando.

OCSO deputies will be stationed at the bus loop and will collect unwanted documents from trunks as vehicles drive through the event. No registration is required, and OCSO asks that all items are placed in the trunk beforehand, as this is a driver-thru only event.

For those that are unable to attend this event, OCSO will host additional events in the coming months.

James Clinton Dismuke

James C. Dismuke passed away on May 14, 2022, at the age of 94. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Dismuke at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, Tifton, GA.

He was born on August 29, 1927, in Cordele, Georgia to Jimmie Clinton Dismuke and Mary Azalee Harvey. He is survived by his second wife, Josephine Saez; his children, Linda Young (Terry), Mary Jayne Dallaportas (Robert) and Jimmy Dismuke (Kristin); his grandchildren, Logan Young (Yanira), Lawson Young and Amanda Brawner; his great granddaughter, Sienna Young; and his brother, John William Dismuke. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Jacquelaine Bonner Dismuke.

Jim was a graduate of Georgia Military College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, before embarking on a career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. After marrying Jackie, they spent years relocating to offices all over the east coast, until he became the District Manager of the Central Florida office headquartered in Orlando. His superior managerial skills led to his district becoming one of the most prolific in the nation, with him being awarded the prestigious Tower Trophy.

He retired in 1986, moving to Waynesville, North Carolina where he and his brother developed acreage on Mount Lyn Lowry. There, he built a beautiful mountain home for his family overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the late 90’s, he moved to Lake Wales and later returned to Orlando. In his remaining years, he met and married Josie.

He was a member of the Orlando Country Club, where he enjoyed his lifelong love of the game of golf. It began at a young age being a caddy at a local country club in Jacksonville where he taught himself how to play while watching others. Some of his fondest memories were of golf trips with friends.

Even though he graduated from Chapel Hill, he adopted the University of Florida football team and became a loyal member of the Gator Nation. He attended many home and away games, including a SEC Championship and two National Championship games.

Dad loved good food, great times, his favorite cocktail and dear friends and family. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

Plantees opens vegan burger, shake shop in Mills 50 District

Plantees, a vegan burger and shake shop, has opened a new location in the Mills 50 District.

The restaurant celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony this week of its new location at 1030 N Mills Avenue.

Plantees boasts a menu that is 100% plant based, featuring burgers and fries dressed with a variety of toppings, and multiple, dairy-free, vegan shake options.

The restaurant will operate Sunday through Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Multiple restaurants have opened new locations in the Mills 50 District recently, including Grilled Cheezus earlier this year.
