Orange County officials approved a speed limit change for a local road after residents expressed their concerns.
During this week’s meeting of the Orange County Board of County Commissioners, officials approved a speed limit change on along North Shore Golf Club Boulevard. The new speed limit between Kirby Smith Road and Moss Park Road is 25 mph, down from 30 mph.
According to concerned residents in the area, the previous speed limit was too high and presented a safety risk.
The county conducted a speed study to analyze pedestrian safety, corridor speed continuity, and accident statistics in considering a speed reduction along the road.
That study was conducted and showed that that average 85th percentile speed on the road was 28 mph. The 50th percentile speed was 23 mph.
“Based on the evaluation performed, USLIMITS2 analysis, roadway characteristics, and operating characteristics, it is recommended to lower the posted speed limit on North Shore Golf Club Boulevard,” reads a letter from Orange County Public Works Department Director Joseph C. Kunkel, P.E.
