Orange County law enforcement authorities are reminding residents during Click it Or Ticket season that not wearing a seatbelt carries a $114 price tag.
During the nationwide campaign, law enforcement agencies including the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Orlando Police Department will issue tickets to drivers not wearing seat belts.
In Orange County, that ticket is $114 for a driver and $164 for any child that is not properly restrained in a car or booster seat. In addition to the fine, the latter penalty also comes with three points assessed to the license of the driver.
“Those fines pale in comparison to the value of your life,” reads a social media post from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
This past weekend, a 19-year-old Sanford woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash after she attempted to change lanes and ran into the vehicle next to her. According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, that woman was not wearing a seatbelt.
