The city of Winter Park’s Central Park will lose its main stage this week after it is demolished to make way for a new performance pavilion.
On Tuesday, June 14, the demolition of the structure will begin, according to city officials. The stage, which was built in the 1980s, will take approximately three days to clear. The new stage will complement the architecture of the nearby Winter Park Train Station.
The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency identified the project as a priority and the new stage is scheduled to be complete by late September. A grand opening to celebrate the new stage will be scheduled around the same time.
“This stage renovation allows the city to continue to showcase a variety of entertainment that inspires all, for generations to come,” reads a press release from Winter Park officials. The new stage is funded by American Rescue Plan Act funds, which were previously approved by Winter Park City Commissioners.
