A 38-year-old Orange City man was killed after a utility vehicle that was stuck on a hill became dislodged and rolled on top of him.
On Sunday, September 4, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency personnel responded to 920 Grand Avenue in Orange City after receiving reports about an accident.
Authorities say that Christopher Guse was riding a side-by-side utility vehicle around the property at around 5:40 p.m. when it became stuck on the edge of a hill.
Guse got out of the vehicle, then returned to it and began to climb inside, causing it to shift and break free. As Guse tried to get out of the vehicle’s path, it rolled over him and down the hill.
Guse was pronounced deceased by emergency personnel who responded to the scene.
Friends and family have taken to social media to mourn the loss of Guse.
“It’s hard to comprehend that waking up to the news about your death last night is real. Chris Guse, you will be greatly missed by many and you were perhaps the funniest person I knew” reads a post from Bradley Schleper.
“I just talked to you the other day, we were supposed to load the SXS’s and take the families riding. I am in absolute shock. RIP Chris Guse” reads a post from Kenny Potter.
