Orlando officials provided updates on a variety of city services that will be closed or unavailable in light of the arrival of Hurricane Ian.
On Tuesday, Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando City Council commissioners provided an update on hurricane preparations across the city.
The city will suspend residential and commercial garbage, recycling, and yard waste pick-up on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. Depending on weather and road conditions, the city says staff will pick up missed garbage starting on Saturday, October 1.
City officials are asking residents to help prevent flooding by not placing tree trimmings or any type of loose waste or yard debris at the curb.
With regards to parking garages, the city will suspend parking fees at all city-owned garages beginning on Wednesday at 2 p.m. for any resident who would like to park a car in a covered garage. Those garages are located at 53 West Central Boulevard, 62 West Jefferson Street, 112 East Central Boulevard, and 300 Liberty Avenue.
All cars will have until Friday, September 30 at 8 p.m. to be removed, depending on weather and road conditions.
Orlando City Hall will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, and will remain closed through Friday.
All community centers, recreation centers, and pools will close from Wednesday through Friday. The city’s After School Program will continue to operate for youths from 6:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at those sites around the city.
All sporting and event activities are scheduled programs are cancelled through Friday.
