Beloved father, grandfather, and husband – Robert James McKenna Jr. returned home to his Heavenly Father on Friday October 7, 2022, at the age of 77.

Bob was born on January 10, 1945, in Potsdam, NY to parents Robert James McKenna and Florence (Hunter) McKenna.

He will be remembered for his tremendous devotion to his family, and the compassion and generosity he showed for everyone he met. He frequently went out of his way to help anyone in need, including complete strangers, and never sought attention or recognition for these acts of kindness.

Bob was a fervent supporter of his local hockey, soccer, and football teams. He took exceptional pride in attending all his grandchildren’s sporting events including club and school soccer, and volleyball. He loved to gather with friends and family and celebrate all of life’s moments; to tell amazing jokes; and to play and share great music that spanned many decades and genres. In these moments, Bob shone so brightly you couldn’t help but smile – his joyful spirit was contagious. To know Bob was to love him.

He bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, serving as a Cryptologic Technician Petty Officer, 2nd Class aboard the Navy Spy Ship USS Banner (AGER-1).

His passing is a profound loss to his loved ones.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Florence, and a daughter, Patty Renea. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cheryl McKenna; two daughters: Lisa O’Malley and her husband Bob O’Malley of Altamonte Springs, FL; Robyn McKenna and her husband Rajesh Paryani of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Cardinal of Potsdam, NY; three grandchildren: Shea, Meagan, and Colin; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

A private service will be held with immediate family before interment at Highland Memory Garden in Apopka, FL.
