A small plane crashed off an airstrip in Volusia County after the pilot lost control and struck a tree.
The accident took place around 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, around 1779 Maytown Road, near the Blue Oak Air Park in Oak Hill.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the pilot, and lone occupant, had just traded for a plane and taxied on the runway twice. While attempting to take off, the man lost control and struck a tree.
The man, who has not been identified by police, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the accident.
