Human remains found near busy road in Osceola County

Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances around a set of human remains that were found in a wooded area near a busy road in Poinciana this morning.

During a press conference this afternoon, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez provided details regarding a set of human remains that were discovered in Poinciana by a passerby at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14.

According to Lopez, the passerby said they were waiting at a bus stop nearby before they went to use the bathroom and noticed a skull. After seeing the skull and what appeared to be human bones, the passerby notified authorities.

Although details are sparse, Lopez estimates that the remains have been decomposing for a matter of months. Authorities do not know the age or gender of the individual whose remains were found, and that an autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner’s office for more information.

Lopez says that OSCO is treating the incident as suspicious until his office is notified otherwise.

Anyone with information that may help Osceola County officials identify the individual is asked to contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at 407-348-2222.
