A driver escaped serious injury after exiting their vehicle moments before it was struck by a SunRail train in Maitland on Tuesday morning.
Maitland Police Department and Maitland Fire Rescue Department crews responded to the incident on Tuesday, December 19, after receiving reports of a train striking a vehicle near the intersection of Horatio Avenue and Maitland Avenue.
According to authorities, a motorist was driving a Jeep Cherokee at the track crossing near the two roads when it became stuck. The motorist was able to exit the vehicle prior to the crash.
Police and fire crews say that the person was uninjured in the incident.
The accident occurred less than 24 hours after another crash involving a SunRail train and a vehicle.
In that incident on Monday, December 19, a 93-year-old Lake Mary woman was killed after her vehicle was struck by a SunRail train while she was attempting to cross the tracks.
