A barbecue chain has closed down one of its locations in east Orlando.
Sonny’s BBQ closed its restaurant at 310 S Alafaya Trail, near Waterford Lakes, on Saturday, December 24, after a multi-year run at the location.
There are currently half a dozen other Sonny’s locations in and around Orlando, including one on Semoran Boulevard and another on Orange Blossom Trail.
In total, Sonny’s BBQ operates over 100 restaurants across 10 states, including dozens in Florida.
Sonny’s BBQ was founded by Floyd “Sonny” Tillman in 1968 in Gainesville. In October 2021, the company mourned the loss of Lucille Tillman, the wife of the founder. Tillman was 91 when she passed away, having been married to her husband for over 72 years.
Last week, a local Sonny’s BBQ in Winter Park was temporarily closed after an inspector with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation cited multiple health code violations.
