Local police are investigating two separate shootings that left a woman in her 20s, a 9-year-old, and a journalist dead, and multiple others critically injured in west Orlando on Wednesday.
During a news briefing on Wednesday evening, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff John Mina provided details about two separate shootings that took place on Hialeah Street and Harrington Street earlier that day.
According to Mina, the first shooting took place in the 6100 block of Hialeah Street at around 11:17 a.m. Deputies responded to a scene to find a 20-year-old woman who had been shot to death.
Just after 4 p.m., deputies were called again to the same area after a news reporter and photographer were shot.
The journalists were on the scene to cover the morning incident.
Shortly thereafter, a mother and her 9-year-old daughter were shot while in their home on Harrington Street, about a block away from the site of the two previous shootings.
Authorities arrested Keith Melvin Moses, 19, a short time after the second shooting and have connected him to both incidents.
According to Mina, the 9-year-old and one of the reporters both succumbed to their injuries and passed away at local hospitals.
“Right now we’re unclear why he shot them in that house. Really unclear as to the news vehicle as well,” said Mina.
When deputies located and arrested Moses, he was armed with a handgun. Mina says he believes that will help connect him to the crimes.
