A 26-year-old man was killed and two other individuals were seriously injured after their vehicles were involved in a head-on collision in Volusia County this weekend.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place near the intersection of State Road 40 and Palmetto Pines Drive on Sunday, March 12, at around 3:42 a.m.
The 26-year-old man, who was from Sanford, was driving his 2009 Chrysler Town and Country westbound on State Road 40, approaching Palmetto Pines Drive. The man failed to maintain control while traveling around a curve and crossed over into the eastbound lane of traffic.
As a result, the van entered the direct path of a 2012 Ford F-150 that was towing a trailer and traveling eastbound.
The vehicles collided head-on and the pickup truck overturned, slid off the roadway, and crashed into a traffic sign.
The driver of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 32-year-old man from Ormond Beach, and his passenger, a 45-year-old man from Orange City, were both transported to Halifax Hospital with serious injuries.
