The Florida Highway Patrol is asking the public for help to identify and locate a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian who was attempting to cross University Boulevard just before midnight.
According to FHP, the fatal accident took place at around 11:17 p.m. near the intersection of University Boulevard and Goldenrod Road.
The pedestrian, who has only been identified as an adult male, was walking in a southerly direction when he entered the eastbound lanes of University Boulevard. According to authorities, the man was not in a marked crosswalk when he entered the direct path of a vehicle.
The left front of the vehicle struck the man and fled the scene after the collision. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During the ensuing investigation, traffic homicide detectives located a car part at the scene for a vehicle that they believe was responsible for the collision. That car part was a piece of the undercarriage of a dark blue Toyota Camry with model years 2014 to 2017.
