Poseidon’s Fury, Hogwarts Castle closing for ‘new experiences’

Two rides will close at Universal Orlando next month, including one permanently, to make way for “new experiences.”

Poseidon’s Fury, which is located at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, will permanently shut down operations on Wednesday, May 10, according to a statement issued by the company earlier this week.

In addition to Poseidon’s Fury, The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle, which is located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, will temporarily close. The park says the ride will experience an “extended closure” to make way for “future show enhancements.”

The company says it is closing Poseidon’s Fury in order to prepare for “exciting new experiences for our guests.”

The closures come amidst a slate of changes as the park refocuses its efforts on new intellectual properties that it owns or licenses.

In January, Universal closed down five rides including Fievel’s Playland, Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Curious George Goes to Town, Dreamworks Destination, and Shrek and Donkey’s Meet & Greet. The closures were made to make way for “exciting new family entertainment” to “immerse guests in the adventures of beloved animated characters.”

The month before those closures, the company reported that a new Minion Land would open later this summer. The new section of the park will feature Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, an interactive ride with a blaster game experience.

Also in December, the park opened its Universal’s Great Movie Escape rooms with storylines from Jurassic World and Back to the Future.
