Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency personnel responded to a home on Sterling Pointe Drive on Monday, May 22, after receiving reports of a workplace accident just before 2 p.m.
According to witnesses, Edvin J. Velasquez Cinto was standing on the roof of a house while he was working on the framing when he was struck by a lightning bolt. The strike caused Cinto to fall to the concrete ground below.
Cinto was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at around 2:39 p.m.
Although an official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office, police investigating the scene say the findings from the examination of the victim’s body are consistent with a lightning strike.
