Odell, Kay Stuart Schmidt, age 86, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away on May 29, 2023. A resident of Central Florida since 1958, she dedicated herself to teaching English in Orange County Public Schools for 30 years at both Glenridge Junior High and Edgewater High Schools.
Kay was born on October 21, 1936 in Daytona Beach, Florida, to Kathleen S. and George R. Schmidt. After graduating from Seabreeze High School, she received her BA from the University of Florida in 1958, and a graduate degree from Rollins College in 1968. She married William F. Odell in 1962, and they were together until his death in 2012. Kay was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando and the honorary organization, ADK.
In retirement, she enjoyed reading and traveling the world with her husband. Her years of teaching were surpassed only by years of crossword puzzles completed. Kay was brilliant, witty, and loving.
She is survived by her four children, Mary K., David G., Daniel S. (Ilana Steinhauer), Jaime E., as well as granddaughter, Bailey A., and grandsons Gabriel S. and Ezra F.
