Seminole County residents may receive free pool/door alarms to help keep their children safe, thanks to a recent donation by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.
According to county officials, pool/door alarms are back in stock at the following Seminole County Library branches: Central Branch (215 N Oxford Road, Casselberry), East Branch (310 N Division Street, Oviedo), and Northwest Branch (580 Green Way Boulevard, Lake Mary).
The program is a partnership between the Seminole County Fire Department and The Gunner Martin Foundation. The foundation was established to provide awareness and honor Gunner Martin, who drowned in a family pool on April 6, 2016.
The organizations are hoping to distribute free pool and door alarms to residents who have a pool or live near a body of water in order to alert parents and caregivers when outside doors are opened. That helps prevent children from letting themselves into a pool area while they are unattended.
Pool alarms are one of the barriers of protection to prevent pediatric drowning. In May, a 2-year-old child drowned in a pool at daycare being run out of a home in Seminole County.
In March, a 2-year-old child was saved after she was found unresponsive in a Deleon Springs pool.
