The occupants of a home in Winter Park that was consumed by a fire started by an overloaded electrical outlet were able to escape the home without injury after they were alerted by smoke alarms.
Crews from the Seminole County Fire Department responded to reports of a residential fire along Newcastle Court in Winter Park at 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, July 22.
Upon arrival, the occupants of the building had safely evacuated. According to authorities, the occupants were alerted to the fire after they heard smoke alarms.
“They were able to get out safely because of those smoke alarms” reads a statement from the Seminole County Fire Department.
The fire was brought under control and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was an improperly loaded electrical outlet, according to authorities.
