A motorist is facing a mandatory court date and a $1,000 fine after he was clocked going 127 mph in the I-4 Express Lanes.
On Wednesday, July 26, an Orlando Police Department officer pulled over a vehicle that was speeding through the westbound express lanes of I-4.
According to the officer’s radar gun, the vehicle was recorded traveling at 127 mph. The posted speed limit on I-4 is 60 mph.
The driver was issued a ticket for traveling over 50 mph above the posted speed limit, which is a felony and carries a mandatory court date.
The fine associated with the ticket is $1,000 for the first violation, and up to $2,500 for the second violation, according to state records.
“There is no excuse to ever be going that fast. We urge you to drive safely and follow the posted speed limits,” reads a statement from OPD.
In 2022, over 40,000 drivers were ticketed for speeding in Orange County, according to statistics obtained from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Across the state of Florida, over 13,000 drivers were involved in accidents as a result of speeding or driving too fast for conditions. Those crashes generated 368 fatalities last year, which accounts for 10.5% of all crash fatalities state wide.
