Korean grocer opening first Florida location in Orlando

A popular Korean grocery chain will open its first location in the state of Florida in Orlando.

H Mart is working to remodel the former site of a Super Target at 7501 W Colonial Drive in Orlando that closed its doors over a decade ago.

The project is currently accepting bids from general contractors.

Plans call for a complete remodeling of 184,876-square-feet at the retail development, which is located near State Road 408.

Founded in Woodside, New York in 1982, the business currently operates over 100 locations across the world, including 89 in the United States. Currently, there are no H Mart locations in the state of Florida, with the nearest stores located in Georgia.

Known for its Asian food products, the company bills itself as a provider of “top quality Korean food.”

“We believe the excellence of our products, encourage our fellow Koreans to have profound pride and dignity in the magnificent culture of our motherland, South Korea,” reads a statement from founder Il Yeon Kwon.

The project is currently selecting subcontractors and finalizing plans to begin construction in the next few months.
