Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating a pair of shootings that took place over the weekend on the same street in DeLand, leaving one 17-year-old boy injured.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the first shooting took place on Friday, August 4 on South Brooks Avenue. A 17-year-old male victim showed up to the hospital at around 11:50 p.m. with a non-life-threatening injury that he sustained from a gunshot.
No additional details were provided by police, who say they were only able to gather a “few other details” through interviews.
The second shooting was reported just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, August 6, in the same area. According to police, a house was riddled by bullets, but no one was struck or injured.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office detectives are currently investigating both shootings and have not confirmed whether they are connected.
The shootings follow several weeks of similar incidents in DeLand.
At the beginning of July, 16-year-old Tywon Jamal Patton was arrested for allegedly firing shots into an occupied vehicle and shooting a victim in the head, critically injuring them.
In late June, 26-year-old Oscar Torres was arrested for firing shots into a vehicle during a road rage incident.
