Artists needed for mural on new Orlando fire station

The Orlando Fire Department has budgeted $70,000 and issued a call for artists who are interested in creating artwork for a newly constructed fire station.

Orlando Fire Department Fire Station 11 is currently nearing completion at the corner of Curry Ford Road and Gaston Foster Road. Last week, officials provided a brief video update of the new building, which replaces the old station that was at the same site.

OFD officials are looking for artists to create a “mural, mosaic, or similar type of art” for the building.

“The art should enhance the design of the station with a focus on capturing the culture of the community,” reads a statement from OFD. Officials say the artwork should be created from “materials appropriate to an outdoor environment” and must be appropriate for “public viewing.”

The city says the artist award amount is $60,000 to $70,000, which will cover all artwork development related to site preparation and installation, as well as all required permits and inspections.

Entry submissions are being accepted through September 8, according to city officials.

For any artist interested in making a submission and applying to participate in the project, visit the Orlando Fire Station 11 CallforEntry webpage.

When complete, the firehouse will be home to 30 firefighters and will house four bays, four units, and ample space to accommodate specialized units and equipment. The nearly 15,000-square-foot station will service the Dover Shores community and will feature a bevy of state-of-the-art features and upgrades.

It joins several new fire stations that are being constructed in the local area, including multiple facilities in various stages of construction in Osceola County.

Earlier this month, Osceola officials broke ground on Station 85, which will be located next to the Vista Del Sol Apartments in Kissimmee.

In June, Osceola County officials unveiled Austin-Tindall Station 67, which is located at 4150 Boggy Creek Road, near Austin Tindell Park in District 5. That fire station project first broke ground in May 2022.
