More thefts of Kia vehicles reported as part of TikTok trend

Volusia law enforcement authorities have received more reports of thefts and attempted thefts of Kia vehicles as part of a nationwide TikTok trend.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, multiple thefts of Kia vehicles have been reported in the city of Deltona recently.

On December 19, deputies spotted a Kia Soul minutes after it was reported stolen. The driver fled and the car was later found crashed and abandoned. Two juveniles were tracked down in the area and were confirmed to be the occupants of the vehicle.

According to detectives, the juveniles, who were 17 and 15 years old, were connected to several other similar cases of theft.

Those juveniles have been arrested on multiple charges, including several counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, and violation of probation.

Before the juveniles were arrested, officials say that a Deltona resident familiar with the TikTok trend reported two Kia Souls speed past his house on the same day. One of the Kias was spotted by Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Air One helicopter.

That Kia was also abandoned in the area and deputies were able to recover the vehicle.
