A driver has been arrested on a charge of DUI manslaughter after he allegedly blew through a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle, killing a 24-year-old woman.

Alejandro Valencia, 39, was arrested on Sunday, December 31, on a charge of driving under the influence manslaughter for a fatal accident that took place just after 4 a.m.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Valencia was driving a 2018 Toyota Tundra westbound on Lake Weston Drive, approaching the roadway’s intersection with Forest City Road.

Valencia failed to stop at a stop sign and began to make a left turn to travel southbound on Forest City Road. Upon doing so, he entered the direct path of a 2021 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling northbound on Forest City Road.

The vehicles crashed head-on, causing Valencia’s pickup truck to overturn into the median. The Sonata ran off the left side of the roadway.

Valencia sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The driver of the Sonata, a 24-year-old woman from Orlando, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Valencia was arrested after the accident and booked into the Orange County Jail on a charge of DUI manslaughter.

The identity of the woman has not been released, per FHP policy.
